A lotus that blooms in a puddle filled with waste and litter on the side of a highway will never touch the mud again once it blooms beautifully.
Similarly, someone born with ignorance will never return to that mire of ignorance if they listen carefully to the teachings of Buddha and practise wise meditation due to the merits they cultivated in their previous lives.
