A mind suppressed by defilements such as Greed-hatred is not easy to guard or prevent from becoming evil.
Like how a skilled blacksmith shapes an arrow with careful heating and moulding, the wise man contemplates wisely of the thoughts that come to mind each moment, keeping his mind on the noble and steadfast purpose.
Like a fish taken out of the water and thrown on land, thrashing and shaking, one who has maintained his mind attached to lust has to tremble and shake with fear in the presence of Mara.
