Dhamma Padaya – Thrushna Waggaya

Just like how a tree can grow again after being cut down as long as its strong roots remain undamaged, if there are hidden defilements in one’s mind, oppression and suffering occur in him repeatedly.

Defilements spill in him excessively, more than thirty-six ways, because of the craving for sense-pleasure.
Lust arises in a person who tolerates that spilling of defilements with delusional thoughts.

Wisely understand how shoots of craving grow because of spilling defilements like the plants and vines emerge everywhere in flowing streams.
Therefore, recognising the roots of craving consciously and wisely uproot the roots first.

A man who seeks happiness with widespread desires gets into the definite birth and death cycle repeatedly because of his search.

The beings who preceded the craving struggle with suffering, like a rabbit caught in a death trap.
The beings who cling to the objectives that come into contact with them spend time with sorrow repeatedly.

The beings who preceded the craving struggle with suffering, like a rabbit caught in a death trap.
Therefore, the bhikkhu should desire to be free from lust by eliminating craving.
