Dhamma Padaya – Dharmastha Waggaya

A monk who does not practise the virtue of ‘Pathimoksha’ correctly does not become a ‘Sthavira’ just because he becomes old and grey-haired.
He who could not attain a fruit through Dharma is called a useless older man without virtue.

The one who has understood the Four Noble Truths and behaves according to the Dharma, disciplining his senses to avoid harming others, and eliminates defilements is called a wise ‘Sthavira’.
