Khuddaka Nikaya

Ba~hiya Suthrya

Khuddaka Nikaya- Udana Pali- Bodhi Waggaya
Remember, this is the valuable section of Bahiya Suthraya preached by the Buddha to Bahiya Daruchiriya on the way begging for food.

“So, then, Ba~hiya, you should be disciplined like this.
Limit only to seeing what has seen,
Limit only to hearing what has heard,
Limit only to feeling what has felt,
Limit only to knowing what has known”.

Ba~hiya, in that way, discipline your eyes to limit only to see what you seen by being disciplined with restraining your senses,
Discipline your ears to limit only to hear what you heard,
Discipline your nose-tongue-body to limit only to feel what you felt,
Discipline your mind to limit only to know what you known”,

Ba~hiya, then the cause called, ‘Craving’ will not arise in you.
If there is no cause called, ‘Craving’ in you, you will not grasp that ‘image’ or ‘object’.
Therefore, at that time, Ba~hiya, because of that reason, you will not be born in both extremes of sadness and happiness.
Thus, when you do not exist there, there is no one to be born in the afterlife too.
In this way, your suffering will end”.

“If there is no sun shining in a place where no solid-air-heat-liquid exist, there is not even a tiny little light during the day.
With it, there is no moon shining, there is no darkness that can be felt too.
Therefore, there is no difference between daytime and nighttime.

At some point, the arahant who has attained great discipline, by
eliminating the perception of ‘I’ of own self and not clinging to anyone or anything as ‘I- Mine-Myself’’, is liberated from Existence and Non-existence as well as sorrow and Happiness”.

Elaboration
If you do not grasp the sensations that arise through the contact of your Senses with objects, then the perception which emerges through that sensation does not cause you to be born.
Therefore, you do not feel that there is a self within you.

The wise one who contemplates consciously understands that he feels as ‘I’ only because of grasping the images or objects that come into contact with his Senses (Eye- Ear- Nose- Tongue- Body- Mind).
If there is no grasping of this kind, then the sensation ceases right there.

Then because of ceasing the cause of existence, the ceasing of existence occurs.

Because of that, the birth called, ‘Jathi’ or the occurrence ceases.

For this, you have to eliminate the greed completely in you.
Follow the correct sequence as taught in the Sathipattahna Suthraya.
