Isigili Suthraya

Majjhima Nikaya- Uparipannasa Pali- Anupada Waggaya
Remember, this is the Sutra preached by Buddha, pointing out the names of the ‘Isolated Buddhas’ called ‘Pase Buddhas and the virtuous qualities of those great ones.

Thus, I have heard.
Once, when the Buddha was residing at Isigili Rock in the city of Rajagaha, he addressed the monks, saying “Monks”.
The monks replied, ‘Yes, the Blessed One’.

“Monks, do you know the ‘Vebhara’ rock”?
‘Yes, the Blessed One’,
“Although it is now known as Vebhara, it was known by a different name in the past. It was well-known under a different name”.

“Monks, do you know the ‘Pandava’ rock”?
‘Yes, the Blessed One’,
“Although it is now known as Pandava, it was known by a different name in the past. It was well-known under a different name”.

“Monks, do you know the ‘Vepulla’ rock”?
‘Yes, the Blessed One’,
“Although it is now known as Vepulla, it was known by a different name in the past. It was well-known under a different name”.

“Monks, do you know the ‘Gijjakuta’ rock”?
‘Yes, the Blessed One’,
“Although it is now known as Gijjakuta, it was known by a different name in the past. It was well-known under a different name”.

“Monks, do you know the ‘Isigili’ rock”?
‘Yes, the Blessed One’,
“Monks, this Isigili rock was previously known by the same name. It was well-known by this same name”.

“Monks, I will tell you about something that happened long ago, in the distant past,
Once, five hundred Pachcheka Buddhas (Isolated Buddhas) lived on this Isigili rock.
Even though it witnessed the advent of the Buddhas to this rock, the Buddhas were not visible on that rock.
People who witnessed this said, “This place swallows up the Irshis’ (Nobles)”.
That is how this rock got its name ‘Isi Gili’.
Monks, I will tell you the names of those Pachcheka Buddhas,
I will extol the attributes of the Pachcheka Buddhas,
I will preach about the Pachcheka Buddhas
”,
