Anguththera Nikaya

Maha~ Ariyawangsha Suthraya

Anguththara Nikaya-Chathukkanipatha Pali-Uruwela Waggaya
Remember, This is the Suthra preached by Buddha, pointing out how a monk or a lay Disciple can enter the high caste lineage, which descends from ancient times.

There are four well known noble lineages descending from ancient times, known by the Noble celibates, that are free from despise or slanders that are very great, very old and indeed, there is no doubt about their purity as they had not mixed even in ancient times.

What are those four?

• The monk is content with any robe he receives at any time,
Gladly accepts any kind of robe-offering,
Shares his merits with the donor as a thank-giving,
Does not criticise or condemn shortcomings.
Does not worry or be disappointed about the robes he did not get.
Does not cling to the robes greedily and delusionally that he received.
Does not be a slave to the robes.
Consciously consumes them, wisely seeing the consequences of attaching to them to eliminate the craving.
He gradually becomes a pacified person as he is satisfied with what he receives and does not stockpile.
He is not despised.
That skilled non-slothful monk who dwells consciously is called ‘a monk that descends from that ancient great noble lineage’.

• The monk is content with any food he receives at any time,
Gladly accepts any kind of food offering,
Shares his merits with the donor as a thank-giving,
Does not criticise or condemn shortcomings.
Does not worry or be disappointed about the food he did not get
Does not cling to the food greedily and delusionally that he received
Does not be a slave to food.
Consciously consumes them, wisely seeing the consequences of attaching to them to eliminate the craving.
He gradually becomes a pacified person as he is satisfied with what he receives and does not stockpile.
He is not despised.
That skilled non-slothful monk who dwells consciously is called a ‘monk that descends from that ancient great noble lineage’.

• The monk is content with any dwelling he receives at any time.
Gladly accepts any kind of dwelling offering.
Shares his merits with the donor as a thank-giving,
Does not criticise or condemn shortcomings.
Does not worry or be disappointed about the dwelling, he did not get.
Does not cling to the place greedily and delusionally that he received.
Does not become a slave to the dwelling.

• Furthermore monks,
a bhikkhu is willingly engaged in practising the meditation of attaining the realisation of ‘Anichcha-Dukkha-Anaththa’.
He engages in practising the elimination of ‘Greed- Hatred- Delusion’ with the willingness to eliminate defilements.
As he is practising willingly to eliminate defilements and not stockpiling anything, he gradually becomes a pacified person.
He is not despised.
That skilled non-slothful monk who dwells consciously is called a ‘monk that descends from that ancient great noble lineage’.

Monks, these are the well-known four noble lineages descending from ancient times known by the Noble celibates. Those are free from despise or slanders that are very great, very old, and indeed, there is no doubt about their purity as they had not mixed even in ancient times.

Thus, even if the monk with the qualities of these four noble lineages resides in the Eastern direction, he is indeed skilled in non-clinging to lust and immediately becomes frustrated with lust.

Thus, even if the monk with the qualities of these four noble lineages resides in the Western direction, he is indeed skilled in non-clinging to lust and immediately becomes frustrated with lust.

Thus, even if the monk with the qualities of these four noble lineages resides in the Northern direction, he is indeed skilled in non-clinging to lust and immediately becomes frustrated with lust.

Thus, even if the monk with the qualities of these four noble lineages resides in the Southern direction, he is indeed skilled in non-clinging to lust and immediately becomes frustrated with lust.

“What is the reason for that?
Monks, the wise one is a Person who is frustrated with lust”.

Defilement does not suppress the wise person.
Defilements are not able to suppress the wise person.
The wise person is skilled in non-attachment.
The wise person is frustrated with all kinds of Sensual pleasure.
Elimination of Defilements is inevitable when abandoning all preconceived thoughts (actions by body- word-mind with ignorance).
He who taunts ‘how lame even the precious gold (Damba Rathran) are’ is praised by God and nobles.
